No matter where you are in your career, burnout is a common denominator in the majority of most people’s careers – especially women. A topic often overlooked and almost considered a “taboo” amongst many workplaces.
Common signs of burnout:
- Lack of excitement and pleasure in role
- Lack of ability to complete tasks – a sense of inefficiency
- Feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion
Locelle hosted a roundtable discussion on identifying the signs of burnout with one of our lovely mentors, Pamela Potts, Director of People & Culture at StarFish Medical. We broke out into breakout rooms and shared our top 2-3 signs of burnout. We uncovered that you are not alone, many of us experience burnout differently and that all signs are interconnected.
How to deal with burnout
Share the responsibility:
- Delegate tasks where possible
- Prioritize certain tasks vs. others
- Additional support from employer/teams
Individuals’ responsibility:
- Focus on self care + mental health
- Coping techniques in moments of high stress (breathing, counting down)
- Take regular breaks
- Prioritize sleep
- Move your body (walks, yoga, exercise)
Even if you personally may not be experiencing the signs of burnout, it’s important to check on your coworkers, employees and teams to ensure that stress levels are managed and individuals feel supported.
One key highlight was that stress does not equal burnout.
