Locelle has partnered with Scotiabank to sponsor 5 BIPOC women with 3 months of mentorship to help move the needle on gender equity in the workforce.
At a time as crucial as Women’s History Month in supporting women for gender equity and equality, Scotiabank and Locelle have teamed up, and are actively taking steps in creating equitable futures for underrepresented women – Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC) in the workplace. Women hold just 26.7% of tech jobs and only 5% of the leadership jobs within the sector.
“At Scotiabank, we believe inclusion, with an emphasis on equity deserving groups, makes us stronger. It is important to recognize and celebrate equality of voice, opinion, and contribution as it is critical to the success of our organizations and our communities,” said Sophia Pugh, District Vice President, Scotiabank, Vancouver Island.
This year’s theme is DigitALL: innovation and technology for gender equality to see how we can use tools and new ideas can help remove barriers for women and change the face of leadership. Unfortunately, even today, women are increasingly being excluded from tech work.
Pugh further added, “Mentors provide first-hand insight into business practices along with support and community to help women thrive. At Scotiabank, we are honoured to be part of this very important initiative. Thank you for including us.”
Locelle’s strategic approach in helping women recover from the effects of the pandemic and beyond has helped women accelerate their careers and this partnership will enable supporting BIPOC women locally in British Columbia with the goal of strengthening leadership pathway for underrepresented women.
Participants in the mentorship program will receive 1:1 mentorship with industry leaders, access to monthly leadership workshops, resources and tools and a dedicated customer success person to ensure they get the best out of the program and level up in their careers.
“In order to move the needle for underrepresented women and BIPOC folks in the technology industry, we need to create equitable opportunities for folks. While we see many women in junior roles within tech, we don’t see them advance at the same rate as men. Together, we can democratize access to knowledge, mentorship and learning opportunities for women (especially BIPOC) in male-dominated industries and develop a diverse leadership pipeline that translates into equitable workplaces for all,” said Humaira Ahmed, CEO of Locelle.
Do you identify as a BIPOC woman and looking to apply for 1 of the 5 spots?
